David Moorhead was picked by the public from 200 other nominees to take the Motors.co.uk title.
A delighted David, who will take home a Renault Twingo Extreme as part of his prize, as well as £1,000 for a student society of his choice at the University, said: “I’m absolutely blown away.
“This may sound cliché, but I didn’t expect it at all. When you look at the other nominees, there are so many inspirational stories, so I didn’t think I was in with a chance. It’s very humbling, I feel a bit guilty to win really.”
The 30 year old’s story was submitted by his partner Samantha, who described David as “education’s biggest champion”.
David came out of secondary school with “nothing” and was told he was “stupid” – in fact he had dyspraxia and dyslexia, something he would find out later in life.
