PC Liam Mitchell on Hate Crime

liammitchellThe University Liaison Officer for Bedfordshire Police, PC Liam Mitchell, has popped in to Radio LaB to tell staff and students about how to report hate crime.

Liam told us that  currently Bedfordshire Police have not seen a rise ion reported hate crime that can be attributed to the results of the EU Referendum. Figures are comparable with last year. But he did tell us hate crime was likely being under-reported.

Hate crimes and incidents come in many different forms. It can be because of hatred on the grounds of your race, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity or disability.

Hate crime in any form is wrong. That is why it is important that if hate crime happens to you or someone you know, that you report it.

You can report it directly to the police by phoning 101, or 999 in an emergency. University of Bedfordshire students in Luton can also support hate incidents to the student support department via the SID desk.

Hate crimes can also be reported online (and anonymously if preferred) on the ‘True Vision’ website: http://www.report-it.org.uk/
