Radio LaB has won a total of FOUR Student Radio Association Amplify awards at this years Student Radio Conference held in Salford on Tuesday evening.
The awards are national recognition for the hard work the stations volunteers have put in throughout the academic year, from fun Murder Mysteries to incredible experiences for volunteers like being backstage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Luton.
The awards where won in the following categories
- SILVER FOR MOST IMPROVED STATION
- SILVER FOR STUDENT RADIO MOMENT OF THE YEAR – BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Coverage
- BRONZE FOR STUDENT RADIO MOMENT OF THE YEAR – Radio LaB’s Murder Mystery
- SILVER FOR BEST FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE – Emma’s 100K for MIND BLMK
Joel Atkinson, Student Manager of Radio LaB and final year Radio & Audio student at the University of Bedfordshire, described the wins:
“It’s an honour to receive national recognition for the hard work our incredible team has put in this year. Our unique ideas and fresh brand have set us up well for the future and it’s an honour to leave such a great legacy from the past few years in capable hands. I’m thrilled that our efforts are being recognised as some of the best in student radio across the UK, and this recognition highlights just how important Radio LaB is to the students at the University of Bedfordshire.”
Terry Lee, station coordinator at Radio LaB, and senior lecturer in Radio & Audio, also commented:
“These award successes showcase the creativity, passion, and talent of our students across a wide range of subject areas. From innovative live broadcasts and charity fundraising to original productions comes national recognition. Radio LaB is a fun and supportive space where students build confidence, develop professional skills, and enhance their employability. It’s brilliant to see their hard work celebrated on such a big stage.”

The awards where attended by Radio LaB volunteers Danielle Foley and Emma Stigter. Emma’s skating challenge for MIND BLMK won BRONZE for Best Fundraising Imitative and she described the win as ‘An incredible achievement, we will continue to work with local charities that give back to our community!’
This year has been massive for Radio LaB but the team are eager to achieve even more in the next few years.
